Who are the River Rats?
The River Rats of Northern Virginia is a group of friends, originally forming among contractors at the National Communications System, and extending to colleagues from other telecommunications-related organizations and good friends in the Washington, DC Metro area.
Our mission is to kayak the local waterways when we feel like it, enjoy the spray and the sun, sample healthy servings of alcoholic beverages, enjoy and learn from each other’s company, and—whenever possible—rape and pillage ashore and sink unfriendly watercraft.
We are terribly disorganized, have no rules, and we will let anyone join us. We often paddle from locations with rental boats, but you'll have more fun and can go to cooler places if you have your own boat.
This is our second year, and most of us will have our own boats, so we expect to make some excursions further afield this year. Check the calendar for upcoming trips!

Standing Invitation
If it ever stops raining, please join us for weekday paddles from Jack's Boathouse in Georgetown. Thursday afternoons around 4 o'clock.
